the alkaline food diary

In my last post I talked about the Alkaline Diet so now it’s time to give you some ideas on what to eat.
During this week I found out that vegetables are more alterable than I thought they’d be, so let's see what I did with them.

Breakfast

Smoothie
put in everything you like, add some water and mix it – so simple and so good!!
The one that I made here consists of a loooot of strawberries, 3 small apples and 1 banana.

another breakfast idea
Fresh fruit salad and a cup of salvia/ginger tea
Basically the same as with the smoothie- put in everything you like or in my case I put in everything that is there :P

Lunch

Okay, I think this needs some explaining first. I know that people from the UK usually don’t eat a lot at lunchtime because they have a big dinner later- maybe it’s liket that in other countries as well ?! Let me know! Well anyways, I’m from Austria and we do it the other way round. So here are my big lunches :

Zucchininoodles + Potatoe mash kind of
I made the zucchininoodles with this special tool but you could simply cut them in long thin pieces – just takes an eternity. Then you add some pepper, tomatoes, basil and oregano and you’re done.
For the mash-thingy: you just cook the potatoes, grate it and fry it briefly.

Tip: If you don’t have a pressure cooker to cook the potatoes put them in a bowl with a little bit of water and microwave it – check every now and then – they should take around 5-10 minutes (depends on the size) to cook in there. That’s so much quicker than the „normal“ way :P

Veggies with Wedges
Firstly, I steamed some Kohlrabi. I heard it’s hard to find in the US or in the UK, but it’s pretty common here and I really like it. If you have the chance go and buy some :) .. So, I steamed it and then fried it, added some pepper and champignons- et voila. Just fry a lot of vegetables you like.
Cut your potatoes and sprinkle them with oregano, basil, thyme, olive oil, pepper, salt..... and put them in the oven.

Snacks or Desserts

Fruit salad with nuts and almonds
Remember! You can eat raw fruits til 2pm – it’s not bad if you eat some afterwards but your body digests it better when you eat it before 2pm.

Dinner

Zucchini + potatoes
You can see that I fell in love with zucchini and potatoes during that week. I had it pretty much every day – but it’s so variable!
So, again I cooked the potatoes in the microwave and then fried both things in a pan.

Vegetable Soup + mushrooms
I had some leftover mushrooms and I didn’t want to throw them away so I just put them in the soup as alternative to croutons.
My dad made this vegetable soup so I’m not quite sure what was in there but it must have been some carrots, celery, potatoes and maybe a zucchini. But yeah, again- just put in there what you like, cook it and mix it together.

That’s it guys. I hope you will cook some of this stuff too and if you have any questions just leave me a comment.
Until then,
x

the alkaline diet

So this years resolutions were all about becoming healthier, fitter and simply feeling awesome in my own body- as I’ve never really felt that yet I thought it’s time for a change!!

Well. It’s April now and I can’t really say that I’ve done a lot.. That’s why I’m starting this blog. I want to get a move on so I will document my process- for myself and for others that are interested.
First of all, I thought it’s good to start with a detox week. I’m doing something that’s called alkaline fasting/diet. Basically, you only eat alkaline things – acid is bad for you :P
Alkaline food is generally vegetables, fruits and some nuts. Yes, that’s it. No dairy products, no meat or fish, no bread or pasta and just spring water- no alcohol, no softdrinks etc.
Moreover, you shouldn’t eat raw vegetables/fruits after 2pm, you shouldn’t eat anything at all after 6pm and make sure to provide your body with enough water- try to drink at least 2-3 litres a day.
Sounds tough I know- especially when you’re like me and you love pasta and cheeeeese and stuff like that. But I want to discipline myself only for this one week.

It’s recommended to drink a pint of Epsom salt a day before you want to start the detox and again when you’re halfway through. It tastes disgusting and it makes you run for the toilet every hour – so you should really do this on a Saturday or Sunday when you know you don’t have to go out of your flat/house.

Also of course- exercise! I’m using this app called „Seven“. It’s great when you (like me) just started exercising regularly – or want to start. In the free version there are 12 different exercises. Each exercise  lasts 30 seconds  then you have a  10 seconds pause. So basically, this workout routine only takes you seven minutes and everyone can spare seven minutes a day.
When you’re more advanced you can simply change it to 40 seconds or something- whatever you like. I think it’s a good app to start exercising. Of course the exercises will get boring after a while when you’re only using the free version but I will continue using this app for as long as I’m not bored with it. (I won’t pay anything though)
My biggest issue are my thighs so I do squats when I’m brushing my teeth for a week now. I only come to about 40-50 though. It’s tough when you’ve got thoothpaste running down your chin already :P

In my next post I will give you some ideas of what I eat in a day. I hope I inspired you to try out the alkaline diet too and I hope you enjoyed reading my post.
Until then,
